Amy C. Edmondson is the Novartis Professor of Leadership and Management at Harvard Business School and one of the most influential researchers in the world on psychological safety. Her work has shaped how leaders think about learning, innovation, and growth inside organizations.

Her research starts from a simple but powerful idea: people do their best work when they feel safe to speak up, ask questions, and admit mistakes. She brought that idea to a wide audience in The Fearless Organization: Creating Psychological Safety in the Workplace for Learning, Innovation, and Growth, now a foundational resource for leaders building high-performing teams.

Psychological safety and the science of failing well

Amy’s book Right Kind of Wrong: The Science of Failing Well, released in September 2023, gives leaders a framework to think about, discuss, and practice failure wisely. It was selected for the Financial Times and Schroders Business Book of the Year award.

Her work connects directly to what people leaders care about most. Psychological safety sits underneath engagement, innovation, and the willingness of people to raise problems before they grow. That lens makes her a natural fit for leaders working on culture, performance, and retention at the same time.

Amy has been recognized by the biannual Thinkers50 global ranking of management thinkers since 2011, and was ranked #1 in both 2021 and 2023.
