John Land

Chief Advocacy Officer
Vantage Circle

John Land is Chief Advocacy Officer at Vantage Circle, a global employee recognition and rewards platform, where he leads strategic consultancy and guidance to help companies build and transform successful recognition programs across North America and global markets. He began his career as an officer in the US Navy before moving into HR and consulting.

Flipping the R's: Recognition Before Rewards

Before joining Vantage Circle, John was a Partner at Mercer, where he worked globally with clients on HR digitization, talent strategy, and operational excellence, and he has also served as Chief HR Officer at both publicly traded and privately held companies. He has led large-scale global projects in M&A due diligence, HR transformation, and HR technology implementation across retail, manufacturing, healthcare, financial services, technology, and higher education. At Vantage Circle, he champions "Flipping the R's," a recognition-first strategy that emphasizes real-time, culture-driven recognition over transactional incentives, and a related principle he calls "design before digital": get the program design right before layering on technology, or you just end up with cool software producing lousy results.
