Reward Gateway
Reward Gateway: Employee Engagement, Now Part of Edenred
Reward Gateway is a SaaS employee engagement platform covering rewards and recognition, employee discounts, wellbeing, and benefits. The company was founded in 2006 in the UK (CB Insights; Edenred, 2026). By the time of its 2023 acquisition, Reward Gateway served more than 4,000 customers and 8 million employees across the UK, Australia, and the US (Edenred press release, May 2023). In May 2023, French payments and benefits company Edenred acquired 100 percent of Reward Gateway for £1.15 billion from private equity funds managed by Abry Partners and Castik Capital, a deal valuing the company at roughly 20 times its projected 2023 EBITDA (Edenred; PRNewswire, May 2023). Reward Gateway now operates as Reward Gateway | Edenred, with Nick Burns, the company's global CEO at the time of acquisition, staying on to lead the business (Reward Gateway press release, 2023).
What Reward Gateway does
Reward Gateway's unified platform brings together several engagement functions: rewards and recognition (peer shout-outs, custom recognition programs, milestone celebrations), employee wellbeing (activity challenges, wellbeing content, goal setting, and community tools), discounts, and commuter benefits (Reward Gateway, 2026). Since joining Edenred, the platform is being integrated with Edenred's existing employee benefits and savings infrastructure, with plans to roll Reward Gateway out across additional Edenred markets including Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Romania, and Spain (GlobeNewswire, May 2023).
Where it fits
Reward Gateway's existing base of 4,000-plus customers spans organizations across the UK, Australia, and the US, and the acquisition by Edenred is specifically aimed at extending that reach into new markets across Europe (Edenred, 2023). It's a fit for HR teams that want recognition, wellbeing, and discounts unified in one employee-facing platform, and organizations with a multinational footprint may increasingly benefit from Reward Gateway's integration with Edenred's broader global benefits infrastructure.
Why this matters for people leaders
Recognition, wellbeing, and discounts programs often end up scattered across separate vendors, which makes the whole employee experience feel disjointed even when each individual program is well designed. Consolidating them into one platform, and now backing that platform with a much larger global benefits company's infrastructure and reach, is a bet that scale and integration matter as much as any single feature. For organizations focused on Culture, Performance, and Retention, a single, well-used engagement hub is easier for employees to actually adopt than several disconnected tools, which is ultimately what determines whether a recognition or wellbeing program has any real effect on how people feel about work.
