Othership: Flexible Workspace and Hybrid Work Software

Othership is a UK-based flexible workspace marketplace and hybrid-work software platform, not to be confused with a similarly named wellness brand in Toronto that offers sauna and ice bath experiences. This Othership was founded in London in 2018 by Benjamin Carew and Arnaud Mardegan, with Carew continuing as CEO (Crunchbase; How We Work, 2025). Carew previously worked as a digital program lead at BP and led digital transformation initiatives at Ford before starting the company (Value Inspiration podcast; How We Work, 2025). In January 2021, Othership ran a £250,000 crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube to fund its evolution from a workspace booking platform into a broader hybrid-work community and software product (Startups Magazine, 2026).

What Othership does

Othership operates two connected pieces: a marketplace where individuals and teams can find and book coworking desks, private offices, meeting rooms, day offices, and cafe or hotel workspaces across the UK, US, and other countries, and a "Workplace Manager" software suite for organizations, covering desk booking, meeting room booking, visitor management, and hybrid work scheduling (Othership, 2026). The company also runs a community layer, including a Slack group, member events, and networking, built around what it calls "flo-working," a term the company uses to describe collaborative but highly flexible work that goes beyond the traditional coworking model (Othership, The Portfolio Collective, 2024).

Where it fits

Othership is a fit for two distinct groups: individuals and freelancers looking for flexible, pay-as-you-go workspace access, and hybrid or remote-first organizations that need desk booking, room scheduling, and visitor management software layered on top of their real estate strategy. The company says it supports organizations of any size, from single-person teams to large enterprises (Othership, 2026).

Why this matters for people leaders

Hybrid work has made office space itself a variable rather than a fixed constant, and many organizations are still managing that variability with spreadsheets or outdated booking tools. That mismatch shows up as friction: employees unsure where to sit, teams unable to coordinate in-office days, and real estate costs that don't track actual usage. For organizations focused on Culture, Performance, and Retention, getting hybrid logistics right is not a minor detail. Employees' day-to-day experience of coming into a well-organized, easy-to-book workspace, or a confusing one, shapes how connected they feel to their team and how willing they are to show up in person at all.
