Motivosity: People-First Recognition Software From a Serial Software Founder

Motivosity is a peer-driven employee recognition and rewards platform designed to strengthen human connection at the peer-to-peer, manager-to-employee, and employee-to-company levels. The company was founded in 2013 in Lehi, Utah, by Scott Johnson, previously founder and CEO of Workfront (formerly AtTask), a large enterprise work management software company he built before starting Motivosity (Motivosity "About Us," 2026). Johnson has said he started Motivosity after observing that managers everywhere tend to become overly focused on results and underly focused on taking care of people. Motivosity has grown without external funding and reports roughly 80-plus employees and an estimated $16.9 million in revenue (Tracxn; PeopleManagingPeople review, 2026).

What Motivosity does

Motivosity's platform combines a social recognition feed, service awards, and a global rewards marketplace with no markup on rewards, alongside a proprietary ThanksMatters Visa Card that lets employees spend recognition points anywhere, or pool points into team or company-wide funds for shared causes like charitable donations (PeopleManagingPeople; Motivosity, 2026). The platform is built to consolidate what the company frames as a typically fragmented stack, recognition, rewards, internal communications, surveys, and wellness tools, into one system that can launch in 30 to 60 days. Recent additions include a Wellness Module co-developed with Sworkit Health (November 2025) and an "Appreciation Intelligence" feature aimed at strengthening human connection (May 2026) (LeadIQ, 2026).

Where it fits

Motivosity is best suited to mid-market to enterprise organizations, particularly those in the 250 to 1,000-employee range at an established growth stage, that explicitly prioritize a people-first culture (CheckThat.ai, 2026). It's a fit for HR teams that want to replace three to five disconnected recognition, communication, and wellness tools with a single platform and a dedicated success manager, rather than organizations needing extensive customization at very large scale.

Why this matters for people leaders

Recognition tools too often optimize for one relationship, usually peer-to-peer shoutouts, while leaving manager-to-employee and employee-to-company recognition underdeveloped, even though research on engagement points to managers as one of the single biggest levers on how connected an employee feels. Motivosity's explicit design around all three relationship layers, not just peer recognition, reflects a more complete read of where genuine workplace connection actually comes from. For organizations focused on Culture, Performance, and Retention, that completeness matters: an employee who feels appreciated by peers but invisible to their manager or disconnected from the company's mission is still at real risk of disengaging or leaving.
