HiBob: A London-Founded, Tel Aviv-Built HR Unicorn

HiBob is a cloud-based human capital management (HCM) platform built around its product, Bob, designed specifically for modern, internationally distributed workforces. The company was founded in 2015 in Tel Aviv by Ronni Zehavi (CEO), Israel David, Andy Bellass, and Amit Knaani, with early funding coming from US-based venture capital firms, and is now co-headquartered in London and Tel Aviv (Wikipedia; HiBob "About," 2026). HiBob became Israel's newest unicorn in 2021 with a $150 million Series C round that valued the company at $1.65 billion, and has since raised further rounds, including a $150 million round in 2023 that pushed its valuation to roughly $2.7 billion, bringing total funding to around $574 million (CTech, 2021 and 2023). HiBob has expanded through acquisition, including UK payroll platform Pento in 2024 for $40 million and financial planning and analysis platform Mosaic in 2025 (CTech; Wikipedia, 2026). The company reported navigating a difficult period in 2020 involving a senior executive misconduct accusation alongside COVID-related layoffs, which CEO Zehavi has said the company addressed directly (CTech, 2021).

What HiBob does

HiBob's Bob platform is an integrated HR hub covering core HR data, benefits administration, payroll (following the Pento acquisition), time-off management, and employee engagement tools, designed to let employees actively contribute to their own data rather than treating HR as a purely top-down system (TFN, 2023). The platform integrates with tools including Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Mercer, and includes an anonymous reporting tool, Your Voice, incorporated from an earlier acquisition (HiBob "About," 2026). HiBob has also launched "In Good Company," an HR community for people-first leaders (Tracxn, 2026).

Where it fits

HiBob serves more than 4,000 fast-growing and mid-market companies globally, with named clients including Monzo, Revolut, Fiverr, Gong, and VaynerMedia (CTech, 2021). It's a fit for growing companies, particularly those with distributed or international teams, that want a modern, employee-friendly HR platform rather than a legacy enterprise HCM system built for a single-country, single-office workforce.

Why this matters for people leaders

HiBob's founding thesis, that HR software needed to evolve for a genuinely international, distributed workforce rather than assuming a single-country office, has proven prescient as remote and hybrid work became the norm well beyond the company's original target market. For organizations focused on Culture, Performance, and Retention, HiBob's emphasis on giving employees an active role in their own HR data, rather than treating HR as something that happens to them, reflects a broader shift in how modern HCM platforms are trying to make employees feel like participants in their own employee experience rather than subjects of it.
