Deloitte
Deloitte: The World's Largest Professional Services Network
Deloitte is a global professional services network offering audit, consulting, financial advisory, risk advisory, tax, and legal services. The firm traces its founding to 1845, when British accountant William Welch Deloitte opened his first office in London and went on to become the first independent auditor of a public company, the Great Western Railway (Wikipedia; Supply Chain Digital, 2022). Today Deloitte operates as Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited (DTTL), a UK private company limited by guarantee headquartered in London, that acts as the umbrella organization for a network of legally separate member firms operating in more than 150 countries (EBSCO Research Starters, 2026). Deloitte is one of the Big Four accounting firms, alongside EY, KPMG, and PwC, and by 2025 the network reported roughly 470,000 employees worldwide and $70.5 billion in revenue (Wikipedia, 2025 figures).
What Deloitte does
Deloitte's Human Capital practice, the part of the firm most relevant to HR and people leaders, helps organizations redesign work, transform HR technology and processes, and build what the firm calls an "AI-powered organization" that combines human and machine workforce capacity (Deloitte, 2026). Services include HR transformation and technology implementation (including SAP SuccessFactors and Workday), workforce and organization design, talent and leadership development, total rewards consulting, and change management for major transformations (Deloitte, 2026). The practice also publishes original research, most visibly its annual Global Human Capital Trends report, which surveys organizations worldwide on workforce, workplace, and culture issues (Deloitte Insights, 2026).
Where it fits
Deloitte's Human Capital practice works across virtually every industry and organization size, from mid-market companies undertaking a single HR technology implementation to large multinational enterprises running full-scale organizational transformations. It's a fit for HR and business leaders who need outside expertise and research-backed benchmarking for a major HR strategy, technology, or organizational design initiative, rather than day-to-day HR administration.
Why this matters for people leaders
Deloitte's scale means its Human Capital research, drawing on data from organizations across industries and geographies, functions as a kind of shared reference point for the field: when its annual trends report identifies a shift, most people leaders end up encountering it, whether through the report itself or through conversations it shapes across the industry. For organizations focused on Culture, Performance, and Retention, that combination of large-scale research and hands-on transformation consulting means Deloitte's Human Capital work often shapes not just individual client engagements but the broader conversation about what "good" workforce strategy looks like in a given year.
